Due to popular demand, here is the tutorial for the <strong>"Green Tea Party" Wings</strong> that I put together for the HGTV website to correspond with my demo segments. Enjoy, and keep in mind that these steps are very simple and can be done by absolutely anyone and with infinite variety - it's all in the decoration that makes these so magical!!!

<strong>“Green Tea Party” Wings</strong>

<img src="http://www.emilieautumn.com/posts/CC2CDay/tpwings1.jpg" border="2">

<strong>MATERIALS: </strong>
Heavy-guage wire, 2 pairs nylon knee-high stockings, assorted acrylic paints, flat-back crystals, assorted glitter, artificial flowers & foliage, decorative butterflies, assorted ribbons, assorted beads, fabric glue, electrical tape, invisible fabric pen, thread, needle, beading thread, hot glue gun, assorted artist paint brushes, tweezers, wire cutter

<strong>STEPS:</strong>
1. Cutting a four-foot length of wire, take one end and begin bending it into your upper wing shape, leaving three inches of the wire free at the beginning and the end of the shape.
2. Wrap the three inch pieces at the beginning and end of your wing shape with electrical tape to close the shape off.
3. Repeat steps one and two for opposite upper wing shape and both lower wing shapes, making the lower shapes slightly smaller.
4. Using one stocking for each wing shape, slide the stocking over the wire frame and wrap extra fabric around the wing base, taping the ends in place.
5. After all four wing frames are covered with stockings, go back over each wing and, with a needle and thread in a corresponding color, hand-stitch the nylon to the wire in any place where the natural stretchiness of the nylon causes it to pull away. This will insure that your fabric follows the design of your wire frame exactly.
6. Draw a design on each wing with invisible fabric pen.
7. Light an incense stick, and use the tip to singe small holes in the stockings wherever you’d like for a decorative, moth-eaten look.
8. Begin painting in your penned design with acrylic paints.
9. While paint is still wet, cover desired areas with glitter and shake excess off on a piece of newspaper.
10. Using tweezers to pick up crystals, use a dot of fabric glue to adhere each crystal to your wings for extra sparkle.
11. Wrap electrical tape around the four-inch wing centers to connect the upper and lower wings together, creating a four-wing wire frame. You can now curve the wings into a more natural shape if desired.
12. Wrap a wide ribbon around the base to cover it neatly, securing ends with hot glue.
13. Cut four lengths of ribbon about two feet each and sew two ribbons to the top insides of the upper wings, then sew the other two ribbons to the bottoms of the lower wings, leaving the ribbons hanging loosely.
14. Hot-glue an assortment of artificial flowers and foliage to your wing base.
15. Using beading needle and beading thread, string several inches of beads and stitch to bottoms of lower wings, creating a draped strand of beads. Repeat for two strands of beads if desired.
16. Hot-glue decorative butterflies to the wing base for the final touch.
17. Using the ribbon ties, tie wings onto your back wrapping the ribbons around your shoulders and tying in a bow at the front.

<strong>Please post pics of your creations!!!</strong>

this is fabulous. Am now busy with first pair of wings, will post pictures when ready.

I never even began with wingmaking cause I thought it would be very difficult to make professional looking wings, but this is fair(l)y easy!

thanks

Oh my goodness, those are completely beautiful!!! Damn, nice work! Love your care bear too;) I hope you'll wear them out and share the faerie love!
I got my dress form on eBay, just searching for dress forms. You could google that too and prolly come up with some good stuff. Nice ones are pricey though, mie was about $100 and that's non-adjustable, non-squishie.
Thanks for posting your pics, makes my night:)

I love your wings! Thanks for sharing the tutorial!
I'll have to post a picture of the wings I made for one halloween. They're boring storebought ones, but my friend has peacocks, so they have millions of feathers around. Her mom let me use a whole bunch, and they helped me cover them with feathers.

Thanks Emilie for posting this tutorial. I'm about to begin a pair of Faerie wings, I'm going to go with a red or maybe a darker color, but it's definately going to be laced with brighter colors to keep it from appearing too dark. I have to keep saying it! Ever since I've heard "Across the sky" I've been hooked to your music. I'm a 14 yr old male-witch and I totally dig into the concepts of your work. Thanks for your art!

Thanks Kurt, your wings sound fantastic! I'm so appreciative of your sweet words, and I'm really glad you're here with us;) It's fitting that you heard "Across The Sky" first because that was really my "introduction" of sorts...I'm not singing in my own voice on that song, I was singing as the voice of something in particular, though nobody has ever hinted that they guessed what it was...hmmm...I wonder if anybody did...
Much love, and post your pics!

Not to take away from the meaning of this topic's board but I think I may know who you may be singing as, and I may be wrong but is it any of the following:
1). The Lady of Avalon/Priestess of Avalon
2). Morgane LeFaye
3).The Goddess in all aspects

But the line" I have put my faith in abberations of your kind.." makes me wonder about my guesses above because the goddess would know..and it sounds as if the person you are singing as has had a letdown..

My last guess could only be The Lady of the Lake...

Well thanks for actually paying attention Emilie..you're just so kind..I don't know..but something about your voice is comforting..I really enjoy this forum and your music and no doubt I will be wearing your logos before long LOL.

Thanks
----Kurt

Good guesswork Kurt. You were closest with your third guess, The Goddess in all aspects, but not quite right, it's even more abstract than that. It's not a person, but a...hmmm...a concept I think... I'd tell you the answer but that just wouldn't be any fun, would it?

Okay my one last guess before I have to go to sleep is....:

The thought of a mother in all things, a female aspect of everything so you're singing really as the embodiment of a matriarch that exists through everything and that's why she can put her faith in things because it's everything at once....so she automatically has the maternal thing of saving and askign for your trust?...

LOL. I've fried my brain...I think it's time for me to go to sleep and get ready for another day of High School. But I will be singing "across the sky" during all of my classes tomorrow.
